Madrone’s head office is located in Duncan, British Columbia, in the middle of the Cowichan Valley on the east coast of Vancouver Island. The Cowichan Valley lies halfway between Victoria and Nanaimo. Living in Duncan combines the advantages of small town life with outdoor recreation opportunities while maintaining access to the amenities of larger urban centers. The Valley is a mixture of towns, suburban, rural, and forested areas with Victoria only an hour’s drive south and Nanaimo an hour’s drive north.
The area offers a variety of thriving cultural and recreational activities. World-class mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, fishing, and year-round golf are amongst the outdoor sports that lie just outside our door. The Quw’utsun’ Cultural Center opens a window on the rich history of Cowichan Tribes and other Coast Salish people. The Cowichan Theatre provides a venue for some of the finest entertainment in North America from dance to opera to children’s shows featuring national artists, international stars and local talent.
Travel to and from the Cowichan Valley is very convenient. There are several flights that leave each day from Nanaimo Airport – thirty-five minutes from Duncan – bound for Vancouver International Airport. You can also catch a seaplane flight directly to downtown Vancouver from Maple Bay, Quamichan Lake, or Nanaimo. Direct flights to other cities in Canada and the United States leave from Victoria Airport, a little more than an hour’s drive away. Alternatively, multiple ferries sail to the mainland from Nanaimo every day.
